$100k Promotion
Thought process
This one was simple: emphasize the money, make it feel like YOU can win $100k, and show Reve’s image models. The execution was quick; I was given free rein to animate whatever motion I wanted, as long as it let the image speak for itself and told the story Reve wanted to convey through the $100k contest.
24 Hours Left
Thought process
To build anticipation at the end of the contest, Reve wanted to announce that there were 24 hours left. Not only did it make the contestants nervous, but it also served as a warning to those who had not yet submitted their images. The hourglass dropping coins at the start is a comparison to the idiom “time is money”. The numbers ticking down also create this feeling of anticipation.
More Time to Create
Thought process
Because the contestants brought up on Twitter that they needed more time and that Reve needed more images, we extended the deadline. However, we needed a video to quickly let the audience know that there was more time to create. That's how this promotional video came about. Simple cuts, engaging images, and a clear message. Since the video was needed as soon as possible, the simple motion quickened my process.
$100k in Cash
Thought process
In an effort to attract more submissions, Reve wanted to emphasize the prize money. $100k in Cash is a promotional video that emphasizes the cash prize through motion and type. Originally, we were going with the direction of “what would you do with $100k” and showing images of things people would do. But that direction was too complex and lost sight of the fact that this is a contest where people are competing for the best image, not a free vacation. So, using basic transformations in After Effects, we conveyed the cash prize in the $100k Contest.
$100k Winners
Thought process
To wrap up and showcase the submitted work, the final video was shown, featuring the 3rd-, 2nd-, and 1st-place images. This video was my longest project at Reve since I started making it when the $100k campaign started and slowly chipped away at it throughout the campaign. Not only were the podium images shown, but in the beginning some of the close runners-up were shown, and it created commentary online (which is good because more people used the product after the contest)!
