Icon Project

This was the first project for my 2D Design II class. We had to create a cohesive icon set on anything we’d like. (At Ringling, the client is yourself!) I have an Australian Shepherd at home named Kea. I wanted to make all the icons about Aussies, and the main hero icon exactly like Kea! Since Aussies vary in color and the assignment limits the number of colors, I narrowed it down to two Aussie color variants: Red Tri and Red Mural.

Sketches were simple icons made in Procreate. I simplified the shapes of an Aussie but still made sure the form is recognizable. My dog’s nickname is “triangle ears,” so I wanted to represent the simple forms of this dog breed.

A critique I got while making this set was that the lines in some of the icons get jammed up. Simplifying the icon actions while keeping them readable was a challenge.

At the end of the project, I turned all 16 icons into a sticker sheet and gave it to my close friends and family for free!
