Romantic Picnic

Music has inspired me since I first started making art. I was very excited to discover that my project in 2D Design II was to create a cover, inside, and back of a vinyl album. The album had to include 8 songs that were either the same genre or had a similar “vibe.”

Gingham is a pattern that hasn't changed for centuries, and European traders transformed it into the iconic picnic pattern we know today. Romance and Picnics go hand in hand. It's a date that exudes nostalgia, just like the songs I curated for this playlist.

This project was the first project I started with mood boards instead of sketches. I wanted these mood boards to capture the feeling of nostalgic romance.

After the mood boards, I knew I wanted the album's focal point to be a picnic basket full of things you find at a picnic, accompanied by a love letter. As the design progressed, I built on the love-letter theme and made the album subtitle “a collection of love letters”.

After I finalized my ideas and received lots of critique from classmates and professors, I put together my first draft of the album cover. I used grain texture to reflect the nostalgia I was conveying with the music.
